Armillary sphere is a symbol of knowledge. It traditionally decorates gardens, urban areas and even state emblems and flags.
Armillary sphere is a heavens globe and an astronomical instrument. For over two millennia, armillary spheres were used for visualization of ideas about the structure of the world. Later, in the 17th — 18th centuries, the armillary spheres wee used to study the differences between the geocentric theory of the structure of the world by Ptolemy and Copernicus's heliocentric theory. Now, the armillary spheres are not used as a measuring tool. Full set armillary sphere consists of not less than eight laps: two meridians, the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, the north and south polar circles and circles placed in the plane of the equator and the ecliptic.
