The instrument measures the true solar time on the meridian passing through the territory of the Museum. One division of the timeline is 2 minutes. In the western part of the sundial, the longitude scale is etched along which the names of 57 cities are positioned. The longitude scale registers the moment true noon in these cities. In the northern part of the dial a true noon pointer is etched for the meridian of Orehovo village. There are also two arrows designated the time interval during which the sun crosses the Vladimir region. To the east of the gnomon the inscription says: "The sun above Vladimir region — 18 min. 24 s ". There is also the EoT graph to the east of the gnomon for calculating the mean time on the meridian of the Museum and the mean time GMT + 3 (MSK) time zone. Instead of a traditional compass rose, the image of aviation compass is etched to the west of gnomon.

Along the perimeter of the dial etched motto, which is the word of Zhukovsky: "A human has no wings and the ratio of the weight of his body to the weight of muscle is 72 times less than in birds ... but I believe that we will fly basing not on the muscles strength but on the strength of the mind. "

Note 1.  The Zhukovsky Museum is one of the very few places in Russia for whichit is known that in this site once upon a time there was a sundial. The sundial is mentioned in the Museum archives. How did it look is unknown now. But the ancient preserved with the inscription «1861» still exists.

Note 2. The initiative to create a new sundial at the Museum of Zhukovsky belongs to Alexander Razov who is the Head of Lakinsk District. He's my client and he found the necessary funds to make the sundial. For many years of work I have never met a person who so persistently aspired to understand the structure of a sundial. A few times I have been  in the district headed by him and saw that other things makes exactly in the same way. Read, please, the interview with Alexander Razov.
