Simon Marius

Description.
The horizontal sundial delineated for geographical coordinates of Moscow is devoted to the 400th anniversary of the publication of the book by Simon Marius«Mundus Iovialis». The instrument is designed and manufactured in collaboration with Reinhold Kriegler, Reinhold Kriegler with the participation of The Society for  Simon Marius.  The languages of the labels are Latin and German. Fonts are identical to the books written by Simon Marius and published during his lifetime. Translation of the inscriptions are given below the drawing:

1. Three virgins are especially chosen because of the secret and successfully completed courtship from Jupiter: Io, the daughter of the river god Inachus; Callisto, daughter of Lycaon; Europe, the daughter of Agenor.

3. Aleksandr Boldyrev & Rreinhold Kriegler devote this sundial to the great Bavarian astronomer Simon Marius.

4. Motto: “God, nature and labour”.

5. Three ear. The logo has had different meanings at different times. It is known since the time of King Herod. Nowadays it is still in use on the coins in some Muslim countries.

6. «The second part can be seen on the edge of the light spot. Image as it makes a wave motion. This movement is due, I believe, the movement of air. This air movement can be seen in the summer over the fields during the big heat».
